Hot Water Storage Tank

Hot Water Storage Tank

(OP)
While familiar with deaerators and their design parameters, I am now faced with designing a potable (stainless) hot water storage tank tank with a capacity of 1700 gallons. My questions is; how low of a profile can I safely build without having to worry about pump cavitation or lack of stratification space? My parameters are:

Room - 8'-0" clear height
Water temp. 140 degrees F

Additional issues - as this is a pressurized system, can I get by with locating my expansion tank (if I enlarge) on the floor next to the storage tank versus locating it as is "standard" at the highest point in the system? Thank you in advance for your advice.
