Part configuration
Part configuration
(OP)
I have a part. It could've been an assy but the detail wasn't needed. I want to show this part opened and closed. So I created the part with a feature showing it opened and a feature showing it closed. I can suppress and unsuppress the features to show what I want. But I'd like to know how I would go about creating a configuration in the part file to possible choose what I want to look at when opening the file, also I want to show both an opened and closed view in my draft.
What can I do? Is config's only associated with assys? Any thoughts…THANKS!

RE: Part configuration
One quick thought may be to use families of parts and if you can control the part opened and closed etc. through the change of a variable or variables, you may be able to create family members that would meet that need. You could then place the family members in the draft file showing the different conditions. Just remember that if you are placing this part into an assembly at a later time, not to use the master part - use one of the family members. Another thought may be to used the simplified part command but you would have to be able to meet two conditions at the same time and I'm not sure that would work but it's worth a try.

RE: Part configuration
Such as SW, configurations are configurations, not actual new part, you'd highlight the part/assy you want to open and before opening choose from a list in the dialog box, which config you want to see. But all the info is in that one part, then if you actually wanted a certain config as its own part you just "save as".
As pro/e also(atleast the last time I used it, 4yrs ago, v200i2), a family table is a table w/dims, features, that can be change, w/o an actual file existing.
I don’t see anything wrong with how SE does it, but it seem less drive space is used if these individual parts weren't actually created. And less linking to worry about if files get moved around.
But remember that my $0.02, take for what it worth :)
Feel free to elaborate!
