Need guidence from you all please..!

Need guidence from you all please..!

(OP)
Hi all friends;

I am chemical engineer with excellent acadamic record at bachelor level. After completing B.E Chemical from well-reputed universtiy in India, I came to Canada before 3 years.

I completed my study as PGDBA, PGDMM, MBA. I want to pursue my further career in Chemical Field in Canada, but the problem is I am at entry-level.

Would you please help me out, how should I make my next move for my career in chemical engineering field??

I would be thankful to you so heartly.

Thanking You;

JAY

RE: Need guidence from you all please..!

My guidance would be to provide a title to your posts that would allow someone to determine if the thread might be interesting to them.  Many people here won't open a thread that is titled "Help", "I need guidance" etc.  I only opened yours because I was bored this morning.

If you come up with a better title, you can hit the red flag button on your post and ask management to change the title.

I'm not sure what the procedure is in Canada, but if I were in your shoes I would probably:

1. Find some companies who need Chemical engineers

2. Find out if the work is something that you like

3. Try to get interviews with those companies whose work you like

4. Repeat steps 1-3 until you get hired

and to add to it - most around here seem to disapprove of internet/messaging shorthand like "ur."

RE: Need guidence from you all please..!

I'm sure there should be some entry level chemE jobs out there. Try a plant or a firm that designs plants. Is there a Fluor or Parsons office near you?

Move to Alberta.  Any company with a refinery or processing facility in Alberta.

If you have a pulse they will hire you.  Every field is that way now.  Chemical Engineers are in very short supply.

Just ensure to communicate clearly.  Poor english/communication skills are your worst enemy.

I am still not sure what you mean by pursuing your career.

Are you looking for a job? (a job in Canada)
Are you looking for a more senior job? (you are entry level now)
Are you looking for a managment type of job? (your MBA)

Yes, Ft. Mac will hire anyone with a pulse. However, that person better be on the working side versus the MBA side. MBAs need not apply in Ft. Mac - all the head offices are in Calgary or Edmonton.

Of all the jobs in hot demand in Alberta, I have never heard of MBA being mentioned. All the demand is on the "working side" - including:
- engineers (who work, versus who manage)
- trades (also called craft - basically, anyone with a journeyman ticket, common labourer, etc.)
- heavy vehical operator
- good cooks (I was at one camp last year where then went through 3 cooks in under 3 months! No kidding.) If you don't feed those boys good, you will lose them all to the next company down the road.

Anyway, if you provide a better question, hopefully, you will get a better answer.

One more suggestion. If you are an engineer - maybe try communicating like an engineer, instead of a teenager on a cell phone. Use of "ur" and all lowercase typing does not present a professional engineering image.

Thanks a lot for your valuable suggations and advices ashereng. I will keep in mind, your all suggations.

well.. pursuing my career, means I want to get my field (chemical engineering)job here. As I am at entry-level, I cant expect seniour level job too.! So, starting from the first step, I want to build good career, but how would I get this first step? I am confused with that.

Thanks again, for your help.

RE: Need guidence from you all please..!

If you want to start working as a chemical engineer, the first step is to figure out what industy you want to work in, and get a job in that industry.

Are you asking for advise on getting a first job, or what first job you should be looking for?

well, I am quite unknown with trends in chemical engineering here, in Canada. So, which particular sub-field like..pulp and paper, environmental, polymer...etc. is in boom, or in which I have more prospects to get job..?

If I should go with any further short term course which can help me further in getting right job, then I want to know such courses too.

thanks ashereng for your concern.

RE: Need guidence from you all please..!

In the immediate future, it looks like oil and gas is the "boom" in Alberta, and world wide (Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, etc). Then again, in the mid to late 80's and again in 90's, it looks like oil and gas was headed for a painful death.

It is not easy to predict the future. If I could do it, I'd be filthy rich.

Again, figure out what you want to do, make a list. Then see if you can get a job in the number 1 industry on your list. If you can't, I'd suggest you move down to the next one on your list.

Once you are working, then you will better know what additional training/courses you will need.

Don't bother with pulp and paper it's a dying industry, at least for now
