MIcrologix 1000 comm ports

MIcrologix 1000 comm ports

MIcrologix 1000 comm ports

(OP)
Its been years since I've done an AB PLC, last ones were way back in time with the SLC500 bricks.

Client *insisted* on a Micrologix.  OK, so I now have a Micrologix1000, and gettng RSLOGIX updated to do the programming.  I have a model 1761-L32AWA

Looking thru the manual, and googling some haven't come up with the comm port info.  All I see is a single mini-DIN connector on top, next to the status lights.  I assume this is the programming port, but is it DH+, DH485, what? I need to tie a panelview into this PLC as well, so do I use that same port?  I've searched thru the Rockwell site as well, and have hits but nothing that really explains it (or at least I didnt come across anything that did)

Also, is this PLC expandable? I think so, most are, but again I dont see an expansion port.  Possible that I need to put the 10/100 module on it as well, still waiting to hear back from the client on that.

RE: MIcrologix 1000 comm ports

Cross-posted answer from the other thread: the comm port is RS-232 DF1 protocol, full duplex. Not sure about the PanelView or expansion.

RE: MIcrologix 1000 comm ports

The mini-din on the Micrologix is RS232.  Your panelview will connect here via 232 also.  Therefore obviously your pc and panelview cannot be connected at the same time.
Hook your pc to it and open linx, select the RS232/DF1 driver and then do an auto-config it should find the micrologix.  You then can see what settings are needed for the panelview.

RE: MIcrologix 1000 comm ports

The comm port on the Micrologix 1000 can be set to either RS232 protocol or DH485 (serial).  As for expansion, you get what you see.  The Panelview standard's part numbers vary based on the comms you wish to use.  I'm not sure about the DF1 cable, but if you use the DH485 driver you will use a 1761-CBL-PMO2 cable, but you will also need a null modem adapter.

RE: MIcrologix 1000 comm ports

To bad you already purchased the ML1000, the ML1200 is a much better unit. You can get it with two com. ports, plus the I/O can be expanded somewhat, supports floating point math, and you can create additional data files.

RE: MIcrologix 1000 comm ports

Utimgr,
Sorry for such a late reply. I've been road-tripping alot! You should look into the 1761-NET-AIC. Your ML1000 will tie in with this and allow an "extra" com port for comms with another plc/panelview or your laptop simultaneously. This will overcome the problem Steve mentions above. As Kiljoy states, you cannot expand the I/O on the ML1000. Now if you need to talk to another plc, maybe you can "expand" that way. I dont know...I haven't tried that configuration before.

I think the ML1000's are fantastic little plc's and I own one myself. Granted, the 1200's are better and the 1500's even more so. But, last year I saved my company 1000's in the production room by implementing ML1000's. The system basically prevented crashing the machines physically and the setup guys love me for it. ( I was a turd and I put a counter in the program that would tattle-tale every time a crash was prevented!)  Just my thoughts.

Did you dislike the SLC500's? (I own one of them also.) Mine is a 503. I can see where you would call the 500 a "brick" though.

I hope some of this helps.

Scott

In a hundred years, it isn't going to matter anyway.
