Affect of chlorine on Aluminum

Affect of chlorine on Aluminum

Affect of chlorine on Aluminum

(OP)
Would 6061 Aluminum submerged in water with 3 ppm chlorine experience an adverse reaction or accelerated corrision?

Thanks

RE: Affect of chlorine on Aluminum

It has been my experience that the Al will slowly form "white rust" even at these low chlorine levels.  At these levels it will be extremely slow to form.
Is the water flowing?
Is it aerated?

RE: Affect of chlorine on Aluminum

Alloy 5052, aka "marine aluminum" will be much more stable in immersed water service.
