Symmetry condition for milling cutter

Symmetry condition for milling cutter

Symmetry condition for milling cutter

(OP)

 Hi folks,

Can anybody give some idea how can we model the milling cutter which is symmetrical in gerometry. My doubt is regarding the load of the cutter. In my view symmetrical condition is only can be applied when loads are also symmetrical on the symmetrical plane(Then only we can apply the from the total load, 1/2 in the middle and 1/4 at the ends). But when it comes to the milling cutter, the load is not symmetrical.I would say it is like a point load and varies on each insert. So can we use symmetrical condition in this case. If so which is an appropriate choice, quarter model or half model? And how about the boundary conditions?

  Your adivces will be appreciated.

 Thank you,
 Tobias.

RE: Symmetry condition for milling cutter

Hi,
as you say, you can speak of "symmetry" in a system when EVERYTHING is symmetrical: geometry AND B.C.
So, if you can't find a symmetry in the B.C. that matches the geometrical one, nothing to do: you have to run the full model.

Regards
