Dear all,

Does anyone know some source of information or tips regarding internal painting of pressure vessels. My main concer is about gaskets vs painting behaviour.

Why do you want to paint the ID surface of a PV? Typically, paint will degrade and peel over time.

There could be some good reason why OP wants to do it. Let's hear.

Typically any surface coating inside or outside should exclude gasket contact surfaces.

For corrosion purposes normally the internal painting of a vessel excludes flanges surface.

It is not uncommon to paint the i.d. of components (ie. channel interior in cooling water service).  Plasite coating is a common paint product.  Don't coat the gasket surface!

Internal painting of pressure vessel depends on the service of that particular vessel. For example, if we have to store oil in the vessel, then there is no need to paint the internal surface of the vessel. Oil forms a film on the internal surface and this film acts like a coating.

If we have to coat the internal surface of the vessel, then we must select the proper coating system. The coating system selection depends on the following factors: design life of the vessel, chemical composition of vessel contents, operating conditions, material of construction of pressure vessel. You can contact the paint manufacturer and every paint manufacturer will suggest their coating system. Please do not forget to give your client’s painting specifications to the paint manufacturer.

While painting the vessel, care must be taken not to coat the sealing face of the flanges. For example, do not coat the raised face of RF (raised face) flanges. For flat face flanges, mask the area matching to the outside and inside diameter of the gasket.
