PVPlus 1000 - SLC 5/05

PVPlus 1000 - SLC 5/05

PVPlus 1000 - SLC 5/05

(OP)
Hello,

I'm trying to setup a serial connection between these two devices and am not having any luck.  All I get is "the tag...has not been activated" error messages on the PVP and no activity on the RS232 port of the SLC 5/05.  I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,
Steve

PS I'm not ashamed to admit it.  I'm a PVP virgin.  ;)

RE: PVPlus 1000 - SLC 5/05

I would start with the communications configuration in the application.  As you may or may not know, the RSLinx Enterprise communication setup must be done in RSView Studio, when you develop the application and create a runtime file.  The RSLinx configuration becomes part of the file downloaded to the PVP.
You have to setup the communication path under the "Target" tab, for RSLinx Enterprise.

I've seen the error message that you mention before, and seem to recall that it may have been a communications issue.

My other guess is that perhaps an address used in the application doesn't exist in the PLC?

RE: PVPlus 1000 - SLC 5/05

I have gotten a PV+ to talk to a Micrologix 1500 via the RS232 port.  You must use the DF1 driver.  It will not talk with the DH485 (serial) protocol.
Also, when you use use a laptop/desktop computer to test the application you use a CP3 cable.  However, when you go from the PV+ to the PLC you have to use a straight through (NC13)cable. It's kind of wierd, but they wanted to keep it the same as the PV standard.
If the cabling and driver are correct, it's probably something to do with the target tab settings.

RE: PVPlus 1000 - SLC 5/05

First off, a 505 won't communicate with any PVP execpt through Enet Ch1. Try this link:
http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/public/documents/webassets/browse_results.hcst?lineTitle=PanelView%20Plus&familyTitle=Graphic%20Terminals&categoryTitle=Operator%20Interface&xLanguage=EN%20-%20English&CategoryId=0024&FamilyId=2841&;PageNumber=2&StartRow=21&EndRow=40&SortField=dDocTitle&SortOrder=Asc&passedLangVal=EN%20-%20English
Look on page 128 of the Pdf file for communications. You need a hub/Cat5 patch cable, or a crossover cable. Try any computer store. The rest is setup in RSview Studio ME.
