NFPA Sprinkler Systems Tank Question

NFPA Sprinkler Systems Tank Question

NFPA Sprinkler Systems Tank Question

(OP)
Do the NFPA codes allow a sprinkler tank to serve more than one building ?  All of the buildings will be owned and occupied by one company.  Any help would be much appreciated

RE: NFPA Sprinkler Systems Tank Question

Are you asking if it is acceptable for one static water tank that is connected to a fire pump supply more than one building on the same property? Answer: Yes. I am not aware of any such limitation in NFPA 22.

RE: NFPA Sprinkler Systems Tank Question

yeah..just like Stookey said.  This is done a lot in industrial complexes from what I have seen.

Travis:

I noticed in a previous post on protection of exterior sprinkler piping that your in the Valley of the Sun. I just moved from there back home to South Texas. Did we ever cross paths (or did I give you grief on a plan review) while I was with PFD?

RE: NFPA Sprinkler Systems Tank Question

stookeyfpe

Oh no the Scott is back in texas! Where are you working at???

RE: NFPA Sprinkler Systems Tank Question

Scott:

I think you reviewed a few plans, but never any grief over them smile

So what are you doing in TX?  I have considered looking down there.

Thanks Stokey and Travis, that is correct.  I am looking at the possibility of one static water tank supplying more than one sprinkler system in different buildings on the same site.  This is my first time designing to NFPA code and they are more than a little different to UK codes.  Again thank you.

RE: NFPA Sprinkler Systems Tank Question

Travis and CDA:

I left Phoenix FD on July 5th. I had enough of the 70-80 hour work weeks, uncompensated emergency response and, working in a convection oven.

I moved to Austin and I'll be working for International Code Council as their Product Development Specialist for the International Fire Code. I'll be working out of my house (assuming that the mortgage company doesn't want more paperwork, AGGHH).

Travis, some of the firms in Austin are always looking for a good ME or FPE for fire protection and HVAC design. Most of the big projects are high-rises and commercial retail with and without high pile stock. Not as much hazmat as we experienced in the 1990s. I still know folks in most of the good engineering firms if you want me to sniff around. I suspect that one of the larger firms could use you for the next couple of years on the Samsung Fab2 semiconductor project. I also am aware of a smaller firm that I suspect is swamped and should branch into fire protection engineering.

Travis, Texas is far nicer and friendlier than Phoenix. Today it was 94F with 44% humidity and 15 MPH South winds. Your sweat glands will work properly, and the music and food is far better. Plus, we get real weather. It is a good place to raise a family and call home.

CDA: Where have we crossed paths? I've been trying to figure out who you are based on some of your posts on the ICC web board.

RE: NFPA Sprinkler Systems Tank Question

Scott I go along way back listening to you teach classes. The first Scott sighting was in San Antonio. Surly you remember the name Glenn Corbett. I worked for him and the city. You came in and gave a class, if I remember right, because the city did not behave correctly on some haz mat issues. Than I bumped to north texas and have sat through a few BPI classes that you have tought.

RE: NFPA Sprinkler Systems Tank Question

Ok, it is becoming a little clearer as to who you are.

I start with ICC next Wednesday. Call me on their 1-800 number and we'll talk more.
