Ansys 10 and its relative version of FlexLm are both 100% compatible with Win XP. Make sure you have installed the correct version of FlexLm.

Thank you all!!
I have 1 gb memory, xp with SP2.
I tried many times to install Ansys v. 10.0 with Flexlm 10.1.3.0.The version of Flexlm came with Ansys CD.
On windows Millenium worked the instalation from the same CD.
I receive the following errors:
-90 Future license file format or misspelling in license file.
The file was issued for a later version of FLEXlm than
this program understands.
-97 The desired vendor daemon is down.
1) Check the lmgrd log file, or 2) Try lmreread.
I was thinking to install windows 2000 or Millenium, but if you all say it works......I'll try again
Best Regards!

Oddly enough I installed Ansys to a XP64 machine last night and when I opened the program it couldn't check out the license, the message was very similar to the one you're getting. When I get to the bottom of the problem I will be sure to let you know what the solution was.

XP64 I've got too.
I'll wait for a response from you.
I'm curious to see what's going on.

I'm pretty sure the problem is that, in order to run on a 64-bits platform, you need:
- the correct version of the program (warning: it's ANOTHER executable, it's compiled expressely for Win-64)
- the correct license for it; it's not the same "Feature" nor the same ID, etc...
From the O.P. I understood that you were trying to install on a "regular" version of XP, not XP64...
Most probably you do have to contact your reseller, explain the problem to him and have the license converted (and, if you don't already have it, get the corerct installation CD).
