Calculation of Fiber elongation as per UCS 79D

Calculation of Fiber elongation as per UCS 79D

Calculation of Fiber elongation as per UCS 79D

(OP)
The extreme fiber elongation as per the formula given in UCS 79D.

what should be the value of t ( minimum or nominal)
what should be computed for Rf (mean kunckle radius)

RE: Calculation of Fiber elongation as per UCS 79D

Merzi, I would take t as nominal, Rf will depend on the style of head under consideration. It would be approx 17% of skirt ID for a 2:1 elliptical per UG-32 (d), or various radii for torispherical, see UG-32 (e) and Appendix 1-4 (d).

Maybe contact your head supplier. It is fairly common for them to form at normalizing temps rather than cold form. Check and see.

Regards,

Mike
