For a heat exchanger, you want to remove the condensate as soon as it is formed to maximise heat transfer capacity.

Common traps for this service would be an inverted bucket or a float type trap.  The selection would prefer on your preferences, operating pressures (normal versus maximum) and required capacity.  An open bucket is also a possibility but these are much less common than an inverted bucket.
