Acker Vane Shear Equipment

Acker Vane Shear Equipment

(OP)
Hi does anybody have any experience with using the Acker Vane Shear equipment. Is it suitable for rotary drilling machines? I understand that is better for percussion drilling machines as their legs are more spread out.

Cheers

RE: Acker Vane Shear Equipment

I have successfully used the acker vane shear equipment that mounts on a hollow-stem auger.  Since it is for soft soils, you don't need much resistance.  The vanes will bend before the auger ever turns.

RE: Acker Vane Shear Equipment

The only issue we had was fabricating a custom mount for use with our hollow stem augers. If I recall correctly, it cost about $200 for a local shop to do using an old auger drive cap.
