Baldor DC Servo - Stepper???
Baldor DC Servo - Stepper???
(OP)
Greetings gentlemen-
I have several Baldor 24 Volt DC "Servo" motors, (Please see photo at: http://tinyurl.com/eqcto )
I have several questions and hope to find some help here if I may enquire:
Is this actually a stepper motor? Or is this a shunt wound PM?
These are on Millitary mobile X-Ray base units and were manuactured in early 1988. ( http://tinyurl.com/j9qyz )
I find little or no information on these motors so am having difficulty determining how they are run.
What type of controller would be needed to run these motors?
Will these motors run without the Tach feedback?
Is there a simple controller available?
Thank- you in advance for you consideration.
Sincerely,
spliff (a sound I hear too regularly in my shop)

RE: Baldor DC Servo - Stepper???
Baldor is usually pretty good about handling old motors, have you checked with them?
RE: Baldor DC Servo - Stepper???
Thanks very much for your response. I'm working and working at trying to find out info on the motors. I haven't been able to find any "person" to ask about it at Baldor. I'm thinking however that this motor is not unlike the Magmotors available currently that are also 4 wire brushed servo motors.
I'm wondering if the Robot Power Sidewinder in mirror mode would run it?
http:
Also, I'm wondering if the thingy on the end is an encoder or a tach-gen?
Do you have a suggestion as to who to call or email about the motor specifics at Baldor?
Thank you vry much for your kind response and suggestions.
Sincerely,
Art

RE: Baldor DC Servo - Stepper???
Looks like I've got it working.
I just bench tested the motor today using a Victor 885 Speed Controller.
Used a little RobotLogic Servo tester and the motor powered up just fine and reversed no problem.
Apparently the unit on the end of the motor actually is a brake.
So that get's me going. RC is easy, next I'd like to be able to find a simple, inexpensive controller that will let me use a joystick without a lot of fuss.
Again, thanks -
