about defining local coordinate system for frame element

(OP)

Please help me be sure. Thank you for your input.

For frame elements, when i input section properties, I need to define local coordinate system.

Select View->Set Display Options->Frame/Cables/Tendons-> Local Axes, it will show local axes for each frame element. Are the local axes shown the local axes I need to define in order to input section properties? Thank you.

RE: about defining local coordinate system for frame element

The local axes shown is the default one for the input section properties you have defined. If you want anothere one you must select the frames you want to change the direction > assign >local axe then you input the new value of angle.

RE: about defining local coordinate system for frame element

When SAP put the element is set into LOCAL axes, not GLOBAL. But if you are reading lets say reactions and select the nodes in the reaction al the information is given in GLOBAL axes, on elements if you select the element it give you the forces in LOCAL axes
