Journal file - Crash Question

Journal file - Crash Question

Journal file - Crash Question

(OP)
I have been told that it is possible to use the journal file and re-create all the work lost when you crash. Right up to the last point when the failure occurred. Can anyone advice on this please ??

RE: Journal file - Crash Question

{quote SW Help]The SolidWorks Journal File is a text file that records the actions you make in the current SolidWorks session. This file is most helpful when you create SolidWorks Basic  macros or SolidWorks API programming tools.[/quote]

The steps that it records can be useful to see what happened just before the crash, but I don't believe it can be used to rebuild a model. That's what the Tools > Options > System Options > Backups section is for.

I agree with that CorBlimeyLimey. But I have had 3rd hand info that you could use the Journal file to drive a macro and "re-create" that failed model up to the point it went wrong.

RE: Journal file - Crash Question

The recorded actions could be used to construct a feature regeneration macro, (if you know what you are doing with macros) but as far as I know there is no one-button-click method which uses the Journal File to re-create a model.

RE: Journal file - Crash Question

That would be a nice feature wouldn't it? They (SW) could take a good look at the linux journalling filesystems code and build a recovery system.
