Obround Opening Reinforcement

Obround Opening Reinforcement

Obround Opening Reinforcement

(OP)
The last part of UG-36(a)(1) reads

"When the long dimension of an elliptical or obround opening exceeds twice the short dimensions, the reinforcement across the short dimensions shall be increased as necessary to provide against excessive distortion due to twisting moment."

Can someone tell me what "the reinforcement across the short dimension shall be increased as necessary" means?

Thanks.

RE: Obround Opening Reinforcement

To me it means to increase the thickesses of pad and  reinforcement originally calculated to make up ONLY for metal loss when cutting out for these openings.
