Stainless steel ductwork

Stainless steel ductwork

Stainless steel ductwork

Hello,

can someone direct me to a good guide or educate me as to the differences between 314 & 316 & 318 stainless steel as used in ductwork applications. Also, I have heard of ductwork being classified as class 1, 2, 3 etc can anyone explain this please.

Many thanks for any help in advance.

RE: Stainless steel ductwork

Standard alloy grades are 304, 305, 309, 310, 316, 317.
I have never seen 314 used for anything.  There is no 318.

What kind of ductwork is this?  What stadards is it built to?

The ductwork is stainless steel ETFE lined for acid exhaust applications.

What do the numbers in the alloy grades refer to?

In HVAC ductwork applications can the ductwork be classed in terms of quality or seal?

RE: Stainless steel ductwork

The common three digit alloy names are a carryover from the days of old.  The numbers don't mean anything.  You have to know what the alloys are.
I would love to give you a full intro to stainless, bu tthis isn't the place.  If you want to contact me I will be glad to send you more info.

If these ducts are lined why are they stainless?  Are there external issues?  Why not use acid resistant grades and no lining, or lined carbon steel?

As to ducting quality, I don't have a clue.
