Welding of disimilar materials A182 F11 to LCC

Welding of disimilar materials A182 F11 to LCC

(OP)
I need to know if I can weld A182 Gr. F11 pipe (p-4 material group) to a LCC valve body (p-1 Material group). Would it be better to weld two similar materials? i.e. a Cr-Mo valve body to the A182?

Your input would be very much appreciated.

Yes, you can directly weld these material combinations, safe ending is not required. The filler metal can be either an E70xx (carbon steel) or an E80xx B2 (1.25Cr-1/2Mo) to match either the carbon steel or i.25Cr- 1/2Mo base material, respectively.

Don't forget to use preheat requirements for the F11 pipe base material and, if required, follow the post weld heat treatment requirements for the F11.

I'm curious what the application is.  Why are you welding a material for high temperature applications (P11) to a material for low temperature applicaions (LCC).  I sometimes see Cr-Mo pipe welded to WCC/WCB castings, but not LCC/LCB.

Thanks guys.  I was in error when I said LCC, It was supposed to be WCB material.  Max. design temp is 315°C.

I am interested in learning more about welding, are there any good books (other than standards) one can purchase.

Thanks again.

Thanks metengr, I'm pretty sure I'll be busy for the next little while.

Thanks Again
