Mold Design

Mold Design

Mold Design

(OP)
I'm new to Solidworkks, 6.5 years in unigraphics (nx3 last).
Can I have an assembly where I add a component(ej. Pin),then subrtact it from comopents(retainer, Insrert & pin plate)? When I change the position of the ej.pin it needs to update all components. I'm I just dreaming?
Thanks
Lofter

RE: Mold Design

Sure you can. I do it all the time using the mold menu, cavity feature. From the assembly, edit the component that will have a hole in it (such as holder or plate). Then from the mold tool bar select "cavity" and then select the ejector pin or what ever you need to subtract. When you move the pin the hole will move with it.

RE: Mold Design

Check out all the tutorials about the mold features.

I used to create all my molds by inserting a Cavity, Core, and my part to an assembly and then using the Cavity Feature to subtract out what I needed.

However, the new feature set for molds is much better now, in my opinion.  Very different from how I used to do it, but if you're going to learn a new thing, it may as well be the "best" method.  You can even create custom parting surfaces for more complex geometry.  I've had tools cut using the new methods and they came out very nice.
