Foundation for House on Lake-Shore with Slate Rock

Foundation for House on Lake-Shore with Slate Rock

(OP)
We are designing a 2 story, 2500 sf house to sit on a lake-side slope, where the slope of the earth is about 45 degrees to the edge of water.  There is highly fractured shale just below 6 inches of slag material on the side of the hill.  I am looking for some ideas on foundation types.  Thought about going with drilled concrete piers that penetrate the slate to a certain depth but I am not sure if there is a cheaper alternative.  We could possibly use caissons that are tied into the rock with grouted rebar, also.  Any ideas?

Thanks!

RE: Foundation for House on Lake-Shore with Slate Rock

How close to the top of slope, how high is the slope?

Is the bedding of the slate / shale in your favor?
