What is a horseshoe support?
What is a horseshoe support?
(OP)
We are asked to design a support for a pressure vessel about 8" diameter and 10' long.
The type of support specified is "horseshoe support" and we are not certain what it is. Is it an another name for saddle supports?
If anyone has any pictures that would hep to.
Thanks in advance.

RE: What is a horseshoe support?
It was just a saddle made from flat bar and changing to a vertical rod at or slightly above the tangent point.
On the ones we have the anchor points are most interesting as of the 10 or so we have no two are anchored to beams the same way. They are anchored by upper and lower beam clamps, lugs welded to the beam, and back to back twin channels.

@unclesyd:
That was very interesting and informative. A picture is worth a thousand words they say, so can you please try to post some images/ sketches if possible, for the benefit of the forum members? Thanks a lot.
RE: What is a horseshoe support?
Thanks for the information. Can it be used to support a vessel in vertical position?
RE: What is a horseshoe support?
For a vertical vessel of your size I would look at a fixed bail of whatever length need to hang it. All my references are to overhead supported vessels.
pandru,
I'll try to get my buddy to take some pictures of the vessels and hangers.
RE: What is a horseshoe support?
Maybe you're thinking of something like these?
