Trench off port-berths as silt-dump

Trench off port-berths as silt-dump

Trench off port-berths as silt-dump

(OP)
This seems to be a "new" development (if proven otherwise!).
Heavy siltation in port (11 berths for merchant vessels, each at least 300 feet LOA)
Especially under "open" wharf structure (Joined T-jetty model) with pilons.
Slope 1:4 average. Current can attain velocity of 4 - 6 kts. (Semi-diurnal)
Trench to be 20 meters wide. 2 meters under bed-level. To restrict superfluous dredging exercise.
Length: approx. 3 miles, parallel and close to wharves and along river-direction to sea.
This pilon structure acts as siltation trap, which we would like to "divert".
Anyone with experience or done trial on this trenching?
Appreciate feed-back.

RE: Trench off port-berths as silt-dump

hello
Silting up of piers and jetties facing the sea have always been a problem. I have worked on such projests but they have always been ongoing There is a pump on the market called a sand bug but it needs a strong current to carry the spoils away and the only company that design and build to your needs is a company called Sea Bed Systems in England. you can get more information if you write to info@seabedsystems.com
I hope this helps
