Measuring Inertia

Measuring Inertia

(OP)
Is there a way when you measure inertia to get the lines it creates (red, blue and green). I need these lines to find length, width and depth for our title block. Right now I am estimating but would like to get a more accurate numbers.

thanks for the help

RE: Measuring Inertia

In the measure dialog, there is a box called "create geometry".  YOu have the option of creating the center of gravity, and axis system.

Do that.

In "Measure Inertia" dialog box click "Customize" - check "Principal axes".

In spec tree, look for three parameters - BBLx, BBLy, BBLz

Now you have your length, width and depth.

RE: Measuring Inertia

I've got a similar question regarding inertia:

In V5, is there a way to measure the inertia of a 2D profile directly from a sketch or from a drawing?

We're looking for a method that does not require the extra steps of creating 3D geometry from the profile (either a face of a solid, or a surface).

thanks

RE: Measuring Inertia

Jack,
as indicated in Help docs, "You can measure the inertia properties of plane surfaces including DMU sections".

RE: Measuring Inertia

That's correct, Silverunner.

But we're looking for a method to get the measurement directly from a 2D layout and avoid having to make the surface/face.
