Whats this type of worm drive cable called??

Whats this type of worm drive cable called??

Whats this type of worm drive cable called??

(OP)
I need to buy this type of cable - its used in sunroofs and power windows in cars.  It uses a worm gear to push and pull the cable, but I dont know what its called, or where to buy them.

Here is a pic - the cable has the felt/lubricant imbedded in it.  Much thanks!

RE: Whats this type of worm drive cable called??

Looks like the stuff from my old Sab 900 sunroof. Also used for old windshield wiper systems. I don't know the technical name for it, but I would take a whack at worm drive cable. I would think this question might better be posted in one of the automotive forum, as this is the only application have seen that uses this stuff.

Thanks!

That seems to be the exact cable.  I will check out their website and see what costs are.

Will also google helical cables and see what I come up with.

RE: Whats this type of worm drive cable called??

There are several other names for this cable. Another one is a "gear cable".
I would give them or a distributor a call as I think they make other sizes.

RE: Whats this type of worm drive cable called??

Is "flocked cable" also a name for it?

RE: Whats this type of worm drive cable called??

Well, I called teleflex morse about this cable.

They would be happy to sell them, in quantity of 100,000 feet or more.

So Im back to square 1.  If anyone knows of a supplier for such a flocked, helical cable, please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Paul

You might look into the steering system on boats as well.  Also check on globalspec (I keep forgetting my pw overthere)
