MCAD comparison

MCAD comparison

(OP)
My cad experience over the past umteen years has gone sort of in sequence. Autocad and Microstation, Inventor then SolidWorks. SW has been about a 3 year endeavor now. I feel much better about it than Inventor but still come up with a fair amount of problems on a regular basis that keep me from getting my projects done the way I would like them.

Last fall I aquired a trial license of SoliEdge. I only ran the tutorials and tried creating some models just to try the capabilities.

In short I would like to get some genuine feedback about SolidEdge. Things like how often you run into bugs that have to be reported. Or you have to ask for a work around.

RE: MCAD comparison

It happens.  Depends a lot on what you are trying to do.

There are a few niggly things that it's difficult to do in Solid Edge but quite often it's the way you are trying to do it that's the problem.  eg most of the guys I work with used to use Pro E, to get the same end result in a model or drawing may be a somewhat different process in SE.

There are 5 of us in my group using Solid Edge, we call the helpline maybe 1-4 times a month, most of those calls are from one person (an ex Pro E guy).  Also I'm the only one in my group who's been using it more than a year.  Sometimes it's a bug, sometimes we just need to be shown where to look and sometimes it's what they consider an 'enhancement request'.

I can only really compare it to Pro E which I started to learn at the same time at a previous employer.  I found Solid Edge a lot more user friendly, also don't remember ever finding anything significant I could do in Pro E but not SE.
