Mating Base Part In SW06

Mating Base Part In SW06

Mating Base Part In SW06

(OP)
SW06 allows mating of multi-bodies in a part & works well ... except for the first-inserted multi-body.

I have a part which has its origin at the centre of the 3 main axes and have inserted it into a new part as a base feature. It does not "snap" to the new part origin, and I am not allowed to choose a pair of planes from the inserted part & the new part to create a mate. Is this normal, a limitation or a bug? Is the workaround the same as the old measure & move method? Or have I just missed something?

cheers

RE: Mating Base Part In SW06

It's probably you're video card.  Make sure your drivers are all up-to-date

RE: Mating Base Part In SW06

When you insert a part into a part you should get the dialog box and a floating ghost of the part in the work area.  If you click on the part origin with your floating ghost, it should snap to the origin.  Additionally, one of the selections in the dialog box is to "lauch the move dialog" which allows you to move/rotate the body if you don't want it at the origin.  If your trigger finger is itchy you might have placed the part before you even saw the ghost or dialog.

There are no mates in part mode, so further movement is via the move command.

After then selecting the part for insertion, go straight to the ACCEPT button and the base part will snap/mate, origin-to-origin, front-to-front, etc,,,,,,,,,,

RE: Mating Base Part In SW06

I believe the video card and drivers are the only reasonable choice for correcting this situation.  When all else fails update your drivers.

Video card & driver are as specified by SW. This not a typical video card problem though.

When I hover over the origin, the cursor changes to indicate alignment, so I click and place the part. However, when I measure for alignment the planes are not coincident.
FYI, I am now using SW06 in which you can use mates with multi-bodies in a part.

I discovered that last night. Actually when inserting the part, I just moved the cursor to an unused area in the Feature Manager section then hit the Enter button & the part snapped to the origin. So Problem solved.

Thanks to all.
