Hi everyone,
I am working on a CO2 removal project utilizing amine solvents. From the research conducted so far, I have discovered that liquid hydrocarbons poison the amines causing foaming.
we have decided to use a slug catcher (finger type)to remove most of the liquid hydrocarbons.
My question is, Do we still need to install a inlet stream separator before the amine treating unit?
Will the primary purpose of this unit be to remove liquid hydrocarbons or contaminants.

What is the cost if you carry over liquids and cause your amine system to foam or foul?
It seems to me that a coalescing type separator ahead of a crtical unit would be cheap insurance. You also need to consider what might carry over and its fouling tendency. Vane pack separators are much more forgiving of fouling than say demister pads or coalescing filters.
