Surfacing creation ideas

Surfacing creation ideas

(OP)
Hi all,
I am new to surfacing, & I had been given a task to trace an existing solid profile (plastic enclosure). It has basic layout (top & bottom cover). The model is in Iges & Stl format, & my challenge is to create a Mech dept. owned model from it.

My question is: what would be most effective way to reproduce the model in Pro e in a useable format, as the model is not really ready for tooling yet. (eg.. draft angle issue, distance between key pad holes are too close, …etc.)

I am familiar with 2 basic ways(surfacing, blending)

Some people like the first, while others like the second.
Is the above 2 methods comparable in terms of accuracy? Some people said that skinning produces more accurate profile, is that true?

Is there any more ways to create the model?

Plus, how do I scan the whole surfae of front cover & export it out for editing?

PLease shine some light on this for me.

Regards,

engmechs
