Controlling pneumatic cylinder with solenoid

Controlling pneumatic cylinder with solenoid

Controlling pneumatic cylinder with solenoid

(OP)
Hi,
I am working on an x-ray system which has a 150N weight hanging on the shaft. We will be rotating this shaft in microradian angles using a long bar connected to shaft. At the end of this bar we have linear actuator which we use to adjust the angle of the shaft(linear motion converted to rotary motion of the shaft). Now my problem is that the linear movement which i can get with this micrometer is 11mm.So if i want to make larger angular adjustments i should make the 11mm linear movement and then hold the shaft at the adjusted angle and take that bar to the original position and repeat the linear movement again. We are trying to use a pneumatic cylinder to hold the shaft at this adjusted angle which should be controlled by solenoid.(my system will have three pnematic cylinders(thinking of using double end and double acting cylinder with linear movement) controlled by 3 solenoid valves in which one will be used to engage and disengage that long bar for too and fro motion and the other 2 cylinders will be used for holding the shaft at the adjusted angle which i feel should also be controlled by the solenoid valves).

As i am from a different background i was not able to find which type of solenoids i should use.Could any of the experts here help me with this task.Any websites where i can get useful info abt using solenoids to control pneumatic systems?

Sorry for the long mail!

Thanks,
Alagaraj

RE: Controlling pneumatic cylinder with solenoid

The major air cylinder manufacturers aslo sell solenoid operated air valves.  Try SMC and Festo.

RE: Controlling pneumatic cylinder with solenoid

Try with ASCO solenoid valves

Why not save your self a lot of hassle and use either a servo motor on a lead screw to move the lever arm, or better yet a servo motor and gear reduction? Remenber KISS?
