Does SolidWorks have anything like Process Assembly ala Pro/E?

Does SolidWorks have anything like Process Assembly ala Pro/E?

I'm having to convert to SolidWorks due to a job change.  I really like SW even though I was a diehard Pro/E User.  Anyhow, we used Pro/E's Assembly Process to create MAI's (Manufacturing Assembly Instructions) and it was very cool.

From what I know of SW, I could create a series of configurations of an assembly and treat that like an assemlby process.

Was just curious if SW has any other methods other than that.

Thanks,

Jeff

RE: Does SolidWorks have anything like Process Assembly ala Pro/E?

I always create subassy's per how the unit is built. The subassy's are then added to other subassy's until the final assy ... exactly the way it is built. I don't usually create configs for each process unless it is req'd and is the cleaner method.

I agree with ctopher - use sub assemblies

so when you have a major assembly with 40 sub-assemblies and a ton of fasteners you do just one exploded view?  pfft.  Process Assembly is a much clearer way to document it and takes about the same amount of work.  I think I'm going to stick with configs... obviously the subs don't need to be exploded out.

RE: Does SolidWorks have anything like Process Assembly ala Pro/E?

I used to create several configs for assembly instructions, but I found it easier in SW06 with display states.  By simply hiding parts in display states, I have reduced the number of configs required.

SoilentG,
You don't have to have just one assy to do an exploded view. You can have as many subassy's as you like and still do one exploded view at the final assy any way you want it ... with any variations of config's.
There is a reason why SW allows this, most companies create their dwgs this way. Each dwg indicates a part, then subassy's, up to the final ... all separate.
