Can views be copied into other views?  I am not concerned if the 2d loses its link with the 3d.

RE: copying views within a catdrawing

Yes.

Cut and paste - but when copying views, you need to paste them into the sheet object in the tree. (not in the workspace)

Additionally, if you don't need associativity, you can right click on your view, go View X (whatever it's called) and select "isolate".  Generally, you will want to isolate generic re-useable views.

solid7, I tried and I got the following message "Nothing could be pasted in the selected item." I selected both views (to and from)inside the tree.

Are your views updated?

Yes, all views are updated.

RE: copying views within a catdrawing

You need to select/cut the 2D geometry within the view frame.

RE: copying views within a catdrawing

like 5050t said you can copy geometry from one view to another. Select geometry, copy, select the view -usually in tree- past

But you cannot copy one view into another view.

RE: copying views within a catdrawing

I guess I missed that point...

I was speaking of copying views within the sheet or other sheets - not pasting one view into another.

Thanks for all the input. Using all the advice I was able to achieve what I wanted.  Selecting the view (geometry) inside the view frame is the key.

RE: copying views within a catdrawing

Here's a trick:  Create a Detail, copy the geometry from the source view into the Detail, instanciate the Detail in to the new view, explode and delete the detail.
