Properties of 8630mod. Steel

Properties of 8630mod. Steel

Properties of 8630mod. Steel

(OP)
I am looking for anybody that may be able to tell me or point me in the right direction of finding the allowable stresses of 8630 mod. steel at room temperature and at an elevated temperature of 100 Degrees c.

Thanks

RE: Properties of 8630mod. Steel

Modified in what way?  How has the 8630 been processed?  Quenched and tempered?  To what hardness/strength?  Allowable stresses under what type of loading?  Static?  Dynamic?  Hertzian contact?  There will be essentially no difference in performance from ambient to 100 C.  Is this something with which your current steel supplier is unable to assist?

RE: Properties of 8630mod. Steel

I would agree with TVP, your original post is too broad to answer. Two additional comments - allowable stresses are those stresses that a designer selects as the maximum limit to either avoid fracture (exceeding the ultimate tensile strength) or permanent deformation (exceeding the tensile yield strength) in service.

Regarding the modified version, I have seen this stated from various suppliers and the difference between 8630 and 8630 mod are slight variations in chemical composition in terms of Mn (slightly higher min/max than the standard min/max range for 8630), lower P and S contents, slightly higher min/max range for Cr, Ni and Mo. Overall, the modification to the standard alloy seems to increase hardenability.
