Load requirements for Hotel, Zoo and Residence

Load requirements for Hotel, Zoo and Residence

Load requirements for Hotel, Zoo and Residence

(OP)
Hello,

I would like to ask you please what would be a good value for Watts per square meter or square foot for the following types of structures:

1. Hotel
2. Zoo
3. Residence

After calculating the load, what should i take as a simultaneity factor for the hotels, if i have 10 hotels and for the houses, if i have 200 housing units?

I found some W/m2 values for Lighting NEC:

Table 220.12
Hotels: 22 W/m2
Dwelling Units: 33 W/m2

And using Table 220.42, the simultaneity factor for lighintg in the housing is 1 and for hotels = 0.5.

However, no values are given for general purpose socket outlets and heating and ventilation.

My go is, for total load before simultaneity factor across buildings:

Hotels: 80 W/m2
Houses: 170 W/m2
Zoo: 15 W/m2

Your help is appreciated, thank you.

RE: Load requirements for Hotel, Zoo and Residence

Here's what I have for AC estimates:

Hotel:  6VA/sf
Residence:  2.3W/sf
Zoo:  No clue!

For residences, as I'm sure you are aware, lighting and gen. use compromise 3VA/sf.  This also applies to hotels.

RE: Load requirements for Hotel, Zoo and Residence

I think you might have to determine the zoo load by considering each building.  The NC state zoo, for instance, is 500 acres (2,023,436 m²) so with your formula it would have a load of 30 MW - a bit high.

RE: Load requirements for Hotel, Zoo and Residence

I agree with jghist about zoos.  Often zoos have aquariums associated with them and as you can imagine they are heavy energy usage systems different from the ostriches!
