PDMWorks properties and drawings

PDMWorks properties and drawings

PDMWorks properties and drawings

(OP)
Hi,

We are using PDMWorks as basically a secure file storage vault.  We are not interested in using the revision history of PDMWorks.  So, we setup all PDMWorks to set the revision to 0000 to 9999, assuming a specific object will have no more than 10000 check-in's, heh.

However, our drawings were setup pre-PDMWorks to pull the revision field from the Revision Table to put the latest revision in the lower right of the drawing automatically using the field:  $PRP:"Revision"

Now that we have PDMWorks, whenever we check-in a drawing it sets that field to the PDMWorks Revision of 0000 or later.  And we need it to remain at the letter revision that is assigned in the Revision table.

Is there a way to stop this without editting all of our drawing formats?

RE: PDMWorks properties and drawings

Have VaultAdmin login to settings and uncheck "Enable Revision Table" under the Revision Table tab.

It's never been checked.  I even tried checking it and un-checking it and no luck.  Any other ideas?

RE: PDMWorks properties and drawings

You may have to remove the link between the rev table and the rev in the title block. I think somehow PDMW is reading it. I had this problem a few years ago. So, you may have to fix each dwg.

Thanks Chris, that's what I was afraid of :(

RE: PDMWorks properties and drawings

R U tracking REV's by the model custom property or the drawing?  PDMWorks uses the "Revision" custom property of any document to track revision, so your revision history will get overwritten with the PDMWorks revision when you check it in.

To play devil's advocate - why not set your PDMWorks revision scheme to match your "true" revision scheme?

RE: PDMWorks properties and drawings

Yes, we're using the "Revision" field.  We may want to change it to "Rev" to break the link.

The reason we don't want to match the revision schemes is that we don't create a new revision for every check-in.  We also don't want to see dual revs, such as A1, A2, A3, in the revision field.

RE: PDMWorks properties and drawings

When you check in, you are not required to roll the rev. You can stay with the same rev. The dual rev's (minor rev) is up to how the Admin set it up.

RE: PDMWorks properties and drawings

You can change the name of PDMWorks "Revision" property so that it does not conflict with your legacy.

How do you do that fcsuper?

RE: PDMWorks properties and drawings

By remapping it to another name.  Under the PDMWorks 2005 VaultAdmin, go to Properties Tab, click the Property Mappings button; and in the "SolidWorks Property" Column, rename the mapped property for Revision to soemthing besides "Revision".  Maybe "PDMWorks Rev"?  We don't pay attention the PDMWorks revision at my company because we have a separate PLM that tracks official revision levels.  I just set up it to with numbers 1 through 999 for simple activity tracking.

Conversely, what I did at my company back in the day was just choose another property name for our official revisions (called "Current Revision").  We didn't have much legacy at the time.  If you do this, I recommend using a shorter name though, such as just "Rev".
