Detailed 3D Threads???

Detailed 3D Threads???

Detailed 3D Threads???

(OP)
Hey all, Im relatively new to Mech. Desktop, and I am making a concept assembly in which I have a few threaded shafts, now my question is, How do I show detailed threads on 3D objects??...I tried using the Shaft Generator option for threads, but it only does 1 revolution around the shaft instead of going all the way down the shaft...any help is appreciated...also...When I want to show Ortho views in the Layout, I currently use Multiple views to set the layout out, is Solview a better way of doing it, and can you give me some tips or hints as how to add dimensions to it before I plot it,

Thanks
Ryan

The first step is to understand which version of Mechanical Desktop your using.

If you're using Desktop 6 then here's a very quick and easy solution. With the 3D fillets, chamfers, holes, etc. you find threads. Simply run the wizard, enter the thread details and select the cylinder to apply the thread to (I'm writing all this from memory).

Multiple views has worked best for me because it mintains the realtionships between all the views so, move one view, move them all.

One other note, you can't add tapered threads using the method above, Autodesk have dropped a b****** here.

Another point:

Autodesk don't produce intuitive systems, they don't always react to changes in standard settings, etc.

make sure you're options are set as you want them (in particular Standard Parts) before you model the thread.
