Grounding Pressure Equipment
Grounding Pressure Equipment
(OP)
Where can I find any requirements for grounding pressure equipment? I know it's required and why it's necessary but which Code or Standard actually specifies the requirements for grounding?
Thanks
Thanks

RE: Grounding Pressure Equipment
As you probably know, ASME VIII-1,2 or 3 doesn't specify the pressure equipment grounding / earthing requirements.
Try however, the UL/ANSI 467 Grounding and Bonding Equipment standard, also some european community directive for pressure vessels. Internet could also help you, using any engine.. google..

It is a corporate standard and is included in the checkoff sheet on the yearly external inspection of all buildings and equipment. If there is any question about the continuity of the ground it was part of the high voltage groups responsibility to check it out. If some equipment was disconnected for repair or replacement it was part of the local electrician's job to ensure that the ground was reconnected.

There is also another reason for proper earthing and this is more prone on large tonnage chillers. There is a theory that if a potential difference exists between the chiller and real solid eatrh ground plane then tube erosion may cuase premature failure.
