SW to DXF crash

SW to DXF crash

I've tried all morning to create a dxf (or dwg) from a SW drawing and Solidworks has crashed every time (SW 2006, SP 3.4). I've even tried using other work stations hoping it was local to my computer but no luck. Anyone else experiencing this issue?

RE: SW to DXF crash

Have you tried other drawings?
Does this only happen only with this drawing?

If it's all drawings try updating to SP4.1 to see if that cures the problem.

If not try FAQ559-507 Alternative to try before reinstalling

cheers

RE: SW to DXF crash

It seems to be related to file size. The drawing is a plan view of a large machine and I was attempting to create the dxf at 1:1. Once I reduced the scale to 1:12, the dxf file was created (after a considerable amount of time).

Thanks for the response.

RE: SW to DXF crash

I noticed the same thing, SW consumes huge amounts of memory to do the conversion process. You could try again with the 3GB switch or under WinXP x64. Also hiding tangent edges will help.

RE: SW to DXF crash

If you are opening and saving hte file across the network, try it locally.

Good points, thanks all. I usually work locally but this project is on the network.

Thanks,

RE: SW to DXF crash

that one is pretty easy to diagnose: start the task manager before you try again and keep an eye out for the network load, if it is constantly above 85% (depending on the quality of your network adapters & switch) your network is holding you back.
