Short Circuit Rating

Short Circuit Rating

Short Circuit Rating

(OP)
Dear Friends,

Is Short circuit rating of a fuse same as the asymmetrical amp. rating that is shown in the catologe?

Thanks

RE: Short Circuit Rating

Basically, yes.  It's a measure of the maximum short circuit current that the fuse can safely interrupt.

Depending on the type of fuse, the rating is either in asymmetrical or symmetrical amps at a stated test power factor.

But if you calculated short circuit current in symmetrical amps and the fuse is rated in asymmetrical amps you have to make sure to make the necessary adjustment so you are comparing apples to apples.  The fuse supplier should have information to assist you.
