Rib along a spline

Rib along a spline

Rib along a spline

(OP)
Im trying to create a rib that follows a spline, and then continues out into a straight line (i.e an extended "S" shape)

How can i create tangency between the spline and line, to allow the rib to follow the joined curve?

THanks.

RE: Rib along a spline

You can use "Curve Smooth" in GSD

RE: Rib along a spline

lots of options here, depending on your design intent.

if the line and spline are defined by a single sketch, you can add a tangency constraint between them.

if the line and spline are individual elements that you joined, you can edit the original geometry and make spline tangent to the line, or the line tangent to the spline.

Is a 3D spline, following points along the centre of a scanned part so i cant create tangency in sketcher.

5050t: i cant find the "curve smooth" icon in GSD. What license is needed for this?

Thanks for your responses.

RE: Rib along a spline

You need GSD license.

You can find "Curve Smooth" in the Operations toolbar OR click "Insert" - "Operations" - "Curve Smooth".

I havent got that function. The license we have is the most basic one.

I know have the co-ordinates along the rib, and have performed a multi-section solid, but this appears "twisted" along the surfaces. I would prefer to use a rib, if i can make the striaght line tangent to the spline.

thanks.

RE: Rib along a spline

You can drop a series of points on the geometry, and then create a spline from those points.  This will ensure that you have tangency, although it's up to you to make sure that tangency occurs where you want it to.
