PDMWorks vault sizes

PDMWorks vault sizes

(OP)
I am in the process of getting PDMWorks implemented and am working with our IT staff on the location of our vault.  I've been asked for disk space requirements, but I'm really not certain what they may be because we as a company are very new to Solidworks.

We've got a bunch of legacy data (ACAD) which amounts to about 2GB.  Does anyone have any rough approximations as to what 2GB of ACAD drawings would be in terms of disk space if they were to be remodeled and redrawn in SWX?

Now before anyone asks me why we would ever go through that exercise, my answer is that we're not going to.  I'm just trying to get a feel for what we will require for disk space going forward.

Alternatively, would anyone be willing to share their vault sizes and rough numbers of documents stored in the vault?  This would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave Gowans

RE: PDMWorks vault sizes

My last job, we had approx 25GB of SolidWorks files, and growing. We did a lot of design work.

ctopher,

Thanks for the response.  One additional question:  Do you have any idea over what period of time that amount of data was generated?

Thanks,
Dave Gowans

RE: PDMWorks vault sizes

I would not worry about disk space too much. It is relatively cheap & easy to add more as & when it is needed.

As for the 2GB of ACAD data ... dependiing on the complexity of the parts involved, that could easily grow by a factor of five or more when/if modelled in 3D.

cheers

RE: PDMWorks vault sizes

I think it took us approx 4 years to get to 25GB. That was about 4-6 of us full time generating the files.

RE: PDMWorks vault sizes

it took us(3 seats of SW) about 3 years to reach 15GB vault size (7 projects)
