To machine some parts from 15-5

To machine some parts from 15-5

(OP)
Hello all,

My brother wants to machine some parts from 15-5 Stainless (UNS S15500).  He was told that these parts will have to be heat treated afterwards as apparently it is susceptible to cracking.

Can someone please fill me in on this issue?  I would like to know why the heat treat is needed and what heat treat is recommended.  Are there some "fine points' that he should be aware of when he machines the parts?

Thanks, John.
