Enclosure for Transformer

Enclosure for Transformer

Enclosure for Transformer

(OP)
I have a 500 VA transformer (120 volt primary/48 volt secondary) that has exposed connections, so I need to put it in some kind of electrical enclosure.

Is there a way that I can quickly determine what size enclosure I would need to keep this transformer from overheating?  Or, does anyone make enclosures with ventilation openings to allow for convection?

RE: Enclosure for Transformer

If you know the worst case power dissipation (rejection) of the transformer in watts, then you can got to http://www.hoffmanonline.com and use their "Thermal Management Selection Software" program that you can download for free. This software is technically designed to select the right fan, heat exchanger or air conditioner for an enclosure. But if you want a sealed enclosure, just keep increasing the enclosure dimensions until it says you don't need anything!
