Logo Creation: GIF --> 3D Solid

Logo Creation: GIF --> 3D Solid

Hi all,

First time thread user(go easy on me!).  Does anyone know how to take a logo in a GIF or JPEG format and bring it into I-DEAS as a solid model?  Or at least into master drafting?

We have castings and machined drawings that need specific logos on them.  Unless I sit at the tube and draw them based on physical pictures, I have no idea how to accomplish this.  There has got to be an easier way!! Using: I-DEAS 10NX m1, HP UNIX

Thank you very much,
RR

RE: Logo Creation: GIF --> 3D Solid

There's no direct route from a Gif or JPeg (or any Raster Image for that matter). If you have it in a Vector file then you stand a chance, dependant upon format.

Ideal would be Vector -> IGES and into Master Modeller.
Not so Ideal would be Vector -> DWG/DXF -> Master Drafting -> IGES -> Master Modeller.

Once in Master Modeller then create a section of it (hopefully system toerances have kept curve ends within 0.01mm) and use it in an extrude operation.

If you don't currently have the logo in a Vector format then a third party application such as IMG2CAD may help, or if you're proficient with PhotoShop then that's as good as any.

Thanks. I'll give it a try and reply to this thread if I am successful or not.
