SPDT 5kV Switch?????
SPDT 5kV Switch?????
(OP)
Any one know of a manual 5kV tranfer switch?
I have looked but not found any. I am considering either kirk key interlocking two disconnects, or using two breakers.
Any thoughts appreciated

RE: SPDT 5kV Switch?????
The circuit used a Magnablast, draw up breaker.
The breaker was lowered, and then wheeled out of the cubical and into the next cubical, which had the connections reversed.
A hole was cut in the between the two cubicles. A pipe coupling was welded into the hole. A smaller piece of pipe was inserted into the hole and a small plate of steel welded top each end so that it could not be removed. Before a breaker could be wheeled into a cubicle, the pipe had to be slid over into the adjoining cubical. This blocked the insertion of breakers in both cubicals simultaneously.
It was cheap, effective and foolproof. I understood that it was a factory installation, and was approved.
If your transfer events are infrequent and you can accept several minutes of transfer time while you rack out and move a breaker, you won't find anything cheaper and more dependable then a piece of 3/4" pipe and a 1" coupling.
