Angle of Repose for Chrused rock

Angle of Repose for Chrused rock

Angle of Repose for Chrused rock

We ofter use 3/4" crusher run for backfill but I can't find the angle of repose for this type of material.  I assume that is greater than for gravel and therefor over 40 but does any =one have any authorative  data on such?

RE: Angle of Repose for Chrused rock

Call your local suppliers.

RE: Angle of Repose for Chrused rock

The 1971 Estimating Manual for Hydraulic Excavators, by Koehring Company lists the Angle of Repose for gravel as 35 degrees.  Koehring manufactured large hydraulic backhoe excavators.  35 degrees sounds conservative to me.

RE: Angle of Repose for Chrused rock

The "US Steel Sheet Piling Design Extracts" is in close agreement with the value PEinc presented. For "Gravel, dry, 1 inch and under" the angle of repose is given as 36 degrees, 52 minutes. (This false precision comes from back-figuring the given slope ratio of "1 on 1 1/3").

...looking a little farther down the list (on page 8), also see what could be be an important difference:
"Limestone, fragments, dry, 1 inch and under" angle of repose = 45 degrees.

Must be very dependent on the material that the crusher run is made from. (Here, it is sedimentary limestone)

36 degrees, 52 minutes????  Sounds a little low. I'd probably use 36 degrees, 56 minutes, 27 seconds.

RE: Angle of Repose for Chrused rock

Good Idea! I had better clarify, for whatever reason ponder, US Steel (not me - I know better, from slide rule days smile) chose to print the figure 36 degrees 52 minutes.

Thanks for the response, I paln to use 40 deg.

RE: Angle of Repose for Chrused rock

The "standard" angle of repose in the aggregate industry is 37 degrees for crushed stone.  For design we look at the range of 35 - 40 degrees.
