Gullick Jacks

Gullick Jacks

Gullick Jacks

(OP)
This is the name of something very similar to an expansion bolt - - they are 4 inches long and inserted into a 30 mm diameter hole drilled into sandstone. Tightening the nut expands the item upwards creating a vertical force. A number of them can be used in a circumferential ring to lift a circular column (as in a church).
Does anyone know where they can be obtained  (or any similar product )
Any comments greatfully appreciated. DW

Mike Halloran Thanks for input Yes, Gullick were bought up by Joy who then sold that side of business to a UK firm   Air power Products who now discontinued the Gullick Wedges.
However I now have discovered the proposed use and intend  to distance myself from the project ! ! !
A Church roof has six large sandstone support columns which are seen to have cracks on one side only. A Consultant suggests this is caused by settlement of the foundation plinths, which reduces the load on one side but overloads it in the other . This overload is causing the cracks. The Consultant suggests that Gullick Jacks be drilled and fitted into the uncracked side and by tightening them up it will cause this side to take a proportion of the load and solve the problem ! The Consultant does however invite the Contractor to offer alternative proposals provided there is adequate insurance cover in place for the work !
I'll keep you posted on the outcome.

Ai-yi-yi.  The hair on my arms and back of the neck stood up straight when I read that!

I agree, RUN, do not walk, away if at all possible.
