Pipe Saddle for high temp application

Pipe Saddle for high temp application

Pipe Saddle for high temp application

(OP)
We are involved in designing a high temperature (500ºC) steam piping inside a power station. The pipe material selected is ASTM A335 P91 and the slippers (shoes/ saddles) of A387 Gr22.

Can somebody, having experience of designing piping for such temperature application recommend the correct/ proven type of slipper design?

Would it be ok to use standard welded design of slippers with the pipe? The concern is the differential thermal expansions between pipe and slipper - is a notch between either ends of the welded slipper design helpful?)

cheers,

Hello sbnz,

You should get a copy of Pipe Fabrication Institute (PFI) Bulletin ES-26.  PFI ES-26 is referenced by ASME B31.1.  This document addresses the manner and details of welding the support appurtenance to the pipe wall.

Regards, John.

Perhaps you should consider a roller rather than a slipper?
