Help with using HYSYS to model a ethanol from starch process
Help with using HYSYS to model a ethanol from starch process
(OP)
I'm not sure if this is in the right forum, so if its not I'm sorry.
I am trying to simulate an ethanol from starch process in HYSYS, and am running into trouble. I am having a hard time coming up with properties for a hypothetical component of starch. Does anyone have some info on that.
From the research I have done, this process is going to have to include some sort of fermentation step to produce the ethanol. How would I do that in HYSYS? From what i have seen, it appears that HYSYS doesn't have anything similar to that kind of capability.
Has anyone done this before? Any advice what so ever on this process would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom

can u elaborate exactly what is the problem u r facing in HYSYS.....
RE: Help with using HYSYS to model a ethanol from starch process
When you state "From the research I have done, this process is going to have to include some sort of fermentation step to produce the ethanol", you reveal that you are not a degreed Chemical Engineer. The knowledge that ethanol is a production of starch fermentation is basic high school chemistry and well-known by undergrad ChEs. It's no crime not to be a ChE; but what specifically are you trying to find out from HySys although you are not familiar with the process you're trying to simulate? If you don't know the process and all its details, you will never simulate it. How could it be otherwise?
These Forums are for engineers, so it's tough trying to understand what a non-engineer is trying to do when he/she doesn't give all the basic data and details. Level with us on what you are trained in so we can understand how to help you and also give us all the basic data.
