A356 alloy and T6 temper
A356 alloy and T6 temper
(OP)
Dear friends,
Why for A356 cast alloy, to T8 temper treating, after solution treatment and before artificial aging, it is hold for 24 hours in room temp. to be aged naturally? I found it is for stabilizing the material, but I need to know what
"stabilizing" means? Thanks all in adv.

RE: A356 alloy and T6 temper
"T8, Solution Heat Treated, Cold Worked, and Artificially Aged"
should not be applicable to castings that are not cold worked.
Instead,
"T7, Solution Heat Treated and Overaged or Stabilized" refers to castings, to provide dimensional and strength stability.
Keeping at room temp. before aging provides some dimensional stabilization.
